3D related effects for Inkscape

Postby Zac » Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:19 pm

I am very impressed with inkscape, and its capabilities.

I have a few simple questions based on the tutorial/online manual.

-How do I create a Sphere with 3D-looking shading?

-How do I create a shadow for such a 3D Sphere?

How do I use "hatching" to create a "3D Drawing Look"
on a Circle/2D polygon?

When I 1st started to learn Inkscape, the 1st think I attempted was to create a sphere which appeared 3D. I searched for and found many tutorials inded! This one I found the most helpful

You can find many others by starting in the Tricks and Tutorials forum here -- particularly the 2nd and 3rd pinned topics provide links to 2 most excellent caches of tutorials. A Google search should turn up many more, and it's my understanding that there are many Inkscape tutorials on YouTube.

As for cross-hatching, I'm not sure if you'll find a tutorial for that technique applied to a sphere specifically. But in general, I'm sure I've seen instructions for that style of graphic design (especially those that teach about using Inkscape with a tablet, or Tablet PC).

And one last minor tip -- if you use "orb" as a keyword in your search, in addition to "sphere", you'll find even more tutorials!

Inkscape » Spheres » Sphere with Hatched Shading and Shadow
Inkscape » Live Path Effects (LPEs) » Stitch Sub-Paths
