Subtle bevel effect

Postby ebisumartin » Mon Oct 08, 2012 2:34 pm

Is it possible to create a bevel effect in Inkscape that looks anything like this one:

Image

The image above was created in Photoshop. The key features are that the light comes more from above than from the sides, and that it is very thin and subtle.

The bevel filter in Inkscape has no options for modifying the depth and width of the bevel, or the direction of the light source. So I'm looking for a more manual solution.

I realize that it might not be possible to perfectly recreate a bevel effect created in a raster in Photoshop with a vector program like Inkscape. But how close can I come?

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

You can probably come so close that it would be hard to know which one was made with which program. At least in theory  You can adjust any filter using the Filters Editor (bottom of Filters menu). I'm not sure exactly which bevel filter you've tried. But if you tell me which one, I can tell you which primitives to tweak. Or maybe you'll figure it out once you've seen the editor. Anyway, let us know if you have questions :D
