Trouble with printing

Postby Nekkid » Sat May 05, 2012 10:44 pm

Hi, I'm Charley and have just started using inkscape. So far, enjoying it, but I have come across a problem with printing. I have searched in the forums but can't find a solution so thought I'd introduce myself and ask a question at the same time!
I'm trying to print a small drawing onto a specific size paper.
I've made the page size 210x99mm in document properties. This is the size of paper i would like to print on.
I have then copied and pasted an image onto the page, positioned the right hand third of the page.
When I print, the page just comes out blank.
If I export bitmap, the image looks ok, but the rest of the page is blue, not white as I would expect.
I suspect it is something blindingly simple I am missing here, so any help greatly apprectiated!!
Thanks
Charley

Welcome Charley!

I can think of a few different possibilities, based on the info you provided, but ulitmately we need more info.

What kind of image is it?
Since you said you used copy/paste, I might guess that it's a raster format, but then I would wonder why you didn't import. So it may well be a vector image. I ask this because if it's already in a raster format, there would be no need to use Export Bitmap.

When you pasted, are you certain that the entire image lies within the Inkscape page border? I don't understand what you mean when you say you positioned the right third of the page. Depending how you printed, any content outside the border might not print.

How exactly are you printing, directly from Inkscape?
When you used Export Bitmap, the only way you could print directly from Inkscape, is if you first imported the PNG back into Inkscape (or paste, I guess) (pasting a raster format image actually imports it - I think Inkscape automatically does that). Otherwise you would print, I don't know, like from a file manager or image viewer.

I'm not sure what to think about the blue background, mostly because I'm not sure that you actually printed the PNG. Possibly your page background is blue?

PS - I'm trying a new technique, making my questions a different color text. When there are so many questions, sometimes they don't all get answered. Maybe this will help....??
