Placing Tiles along an arc: unexpected behaviour

Postby xob » Thu Aug 11, 2011 2:08 am

Hello everyone

I was following the Inkscape manual to place tiles along an arc, but I am not getting the expected results. I want to arrange the clones in a circle, around the center of rotation of the base object. I fixed the center of rotation of the base object as I desired, but the clones t do not rotate themselves around it. Instead they place themselves along another circle. The centers of rotation of all new clones are same as that of the base object. The figure below shows the situation, with the base object selected with its center of rotation.
What I may be doing wrong here?

Maybe you have some previous settings set in the Clone dialogue that are spoiling it, make sure you Reset the dialogue before creating another tile set.

Also did you tick the Exclude tile options on the Shift tab? First you have to make sure that all the clones are created one on top of the other, in the same position, before they are rotated so you get the expected circle layout. Try creating the tiles without the rotation, and see if they all turn up aligned or of they form a row (or column depending on what you used.)

Thanks a lot for help and suggestions. :)
It appears that it was indeed a bug, but this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/512150

I was working with landscape mode. Once I changed the page to 'Portrait' mode, it worked fine.

It's essentially the same bug - marked as a duplicate in Launchpad - albeit with more than one way to trigger it via the UI. I hadn't considered that switching to landscape would also trigger it; I'll have to watch out for that one in future.

@Xav: you are right. I noticed it later.
