Inkscape Community Gallery

Postby brynn » Tue Oct 01, 2013 4:25 am

Hi Friends,
I'm happy to announce the opening of Inkscape Community Gallery !

I haven't actually searched, but it's the only gallery dedicated to displaying images made with Inkscape (in whole or in part), that I know of. It's purpose is to promote Inkscape and its capabilities, as well as the awesome Inkscape artists who may want to display their work. Members of Inkscape Community are automatically gallery members, with a user gallery of their own, in which they may create and manage their own albums, and upload their own Inkscape images.

It's a Coppermine Gallery, which I've learned it just an awesome program. It's features and capabilities are amazing!

So please feel free have a look, and register if you like. I hope we can build a fabulous collection of Inkscape images :D

All best,
brynn

What makes it difficult for you to read? Is the text too small? Or something else?

Well, I couldn't make it much lighter, without losing the effect of the denim fabric texture. But I made it 5% lighter. I hope that helps.

It was reading fine for me before and now of course the texture is barely even visible. If it weren't someone as skilled in graphics as Vince I would suspect monitor calibration issues, but I'm sure that's not the case here so it's quite puzzling.

I would haved dropped the texture.
There are a lot of links (blue and underescored) over a (somewhat) blue hatched pattern. The texture doesn't fill the page.We got navy blue, light blue, white, then denim pattern with no clear separation between white and denim. Plus the 'celtic' stripe has 45° strokes when your denim is 50°. Too complicated

or

use a real navy denim texture with an orange text (and remove the underscore over links)

Well, as it turns out, I didn't like the lighter background. So I've switched it back for now. I apologize, but I'll never be able to please everyone. Perhaps if the text were larger, it would be easier to read against that background? I'd be willing to try that. (Actually, if I open that page by itself in the browser, not inside the Tiny Portal page, the text looks much larger! I don't understand why that happens, but I've thought about making the text larger a few times.)

I appreciate your comments v1nce. If it makes you feel any better, I don't expect that page will always look like that. This is the 1st time I've made a website, and as I've mentioned quite a lot, I've had a lot to learn. And I'll keep learning and get better skills.

The SVG upload does work very well. But there's a problem with the display. I'm hoping the CPG folks can fix the plugin for me. If they can't, we'll either have to live with the display, or drop the SVG abilities. SVG files could still be exchanged either via forum or PM attachments. But I'm hopeful they can fix it.

Thanks for everyone's comments :D

After thinking I'm not sure the problem is with the font size. It's more with the profusion of lines with varying angles:
horizontal (text lines, anchor underscore,div),
vertical (panels, celtic stripe),
45° (celtic stripe)
50° (denim pattern)

That's just too much for me.
But I'll go with it.

Only no-go would be using Comic-sans ;)

Please click on the black text of each list item...

Just FYI, links display style is set in the browser's preferences; for example these links are blue on my screen, but of course anyone can really figure it out with a few clicks so no need to change every little thing ...

I don't know if this will help v1nce or not. (Probably not.) I noticed that for some reason which I could not figure out, visited links were being shown in a gray color, instead of the traditional purple. So that if you visited all or most of the links, the page would contain more grayish text, which could be harder to read. So I've added some extra styling to override that gray color. Now the visited links are shown in a more saturated blue color, that's a little lighter than the navy. I like it better than the gray.

And by the way, I've just added a theme changer to the gallery. I wasn't able to style the theme changer to match each theme. But it works. Note that the gallery themes, except for the default theme, don't match the forum themes. But at least you can change themes, if you don't like the default.

Edit
(Although changing the forum theme probably won't affect the Inkscape Tutorials page.)
