So is anyone working on getting Inkscape on Linux to have an integrated cutting feature?
I have read people output files and use workarounds, but its easier to reboot into Windows. i would like to drop windows though, but I am starting a sign company and time is money, so my Ubuntu system will have to remain at home.
I have googled it and found people have been looking for something, but it doesn't sound like usable solution is available yet outside of said workarounds.

Re: Linux and Roland cutters
I use Inkscape with a Roland GX 24 cutter. Currently I'm using it on Windows but that's only 'cause I haven't figured out how to install the cutters' drivers on Ubuntu. To cut directly from Inkscape I have to do the following:
With the printer turned on and plugged in go to file > Print and select the Roland cutter
Under the properties for that cutter press get from machine. For me it's usually something like 449mm x 1600mm. The width isn't all that important but the height is
Adjust the document size to match at least the height*. You can do this by going file > Document properties (ctrl + shift + d). Make sure you change it to mm before entering the new document size values.
I'm using it to print on t-shirts so I need to flip the designs. Do this by highlighting everything and pressing "h" (flips horizontally).
Press print!
I hope this helps
*I've found that if the height doesn't match that of the cutter the material just shoots out of the machine!

Re: Linux and Roland cutters
In any case, if you can't leave windows behind... just install Sun's Virtual Box on your Ubuntu, make a fresh install of Windows XP on a small virtual machine, and you can launch windows directly within Linux without rebooting, you can give the virtualmachine access your ethernet, usb and serial ports without a problem...
That might help you in saving your time.
Cheers.
