Ellipse Tool Help

Postby spitfireblaze » Fri Jul 13, 2012 8:58 pm

Hey guys, I was working on a vector tonight and started using the ellipse tool :tool_ellipse:. Instead of coming out as a smooth edged ellipse though, it came out sorta like a polygonal shape which was causing me much grief and still is since I cannot complete the work I'm doing to my liking without this. I tried many different tricks but all came out with the same result, a polygon that wasn't smooth, a rectangle, or a diamond shape of some sort, as can be seen here. http://prntscr.com/c0nz1

Is there anyway to fix this? I've been trying for about half an hour now and have no bloody clue on how this works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't look familiar - you can post the svg or switch to outline mode and take a screenshot and post that. At this point the most likely candidate in my thinking is the ellipse control bar

, where you might have selected a sector instead of a full ellipse, and then put on a stroke so much larger than the object that the shape becomes unrecognizable?
uploading the svg will likely be the surest way to get an answer. You could also tell us you version of Inkscape. There is a unexpected effect in scaling stroked ellipses that shows up sometimes.
Your mind is what you think it is.

I wonder if it could be a thick stroke applied to a small ellipse. Perhaps with markers or a dash array applied. Try selecting your "ellipse" then shift-clicking on the "X" at the left of the colour palette at the bottom of the screen to remove the stroke entirely.
