Can anyone point me to the instructions for doing this?

The "instructions" link goes to a page https://help.launchpad.net/YourAccount/ ... ect=OpenID which fails to say how to do either.

It sounds like you're on the right track. Try refreshing the page that comes up when you click "Create account" text link. Maybe it just didn't load properly?? Or maybe this will help. It looks to me like a direct link to the page where you can create a new account. It's entirely obvious what to do, as long as you're seeing the whole page.

I know that I sometimes don't see certain kinds of content on a website, if I haven't allowed the script(s) it needs to function. That's because I use Firefox with an extension to block scripts.

Well, let us know if you still have trouble. I suppose it's possible the Launchpad site is having some issues, at the moment you tried to register. Although it seems to be fine right now.
