i've only just started using inkscape, i have a question about performance.

when i start it up, it takes literally a couple of minutes for it to display -- no exaggeration. i'm not starting it by double-clicking on an associated file, i'm just clicking the menu shortcut. this happens w/both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. [i tried one, then the other -- only one was installed at a time.]

is this normal ?

my system --
- intel core 2 duo e6420
- 8 gig of ram
- intel g965 graphics
- windows 7 enterprise x64 w/sp1

As far as I know this is (or was?) normal for the very first startup on Windows. Does it still happen? (Do you have lots of fonts installed? Which Inkscape version are you using?)

Another issue that can slow down loading is a large number of files in the MRU list, or large files in that list.

I'd clear the MRU list and set it for just a handful of previously used files.

heh... guess i'm a little too quick on the draw. ['draw' -- get it? ]
anyway, that was a good call. i used it all afternoon yesterday but never exited, so never had the opportunity to restart. now when i start it up, it takes only 12 seconds. problem solved, thanks for the help !

BTW - inkscape 0.92.
...and, yes, lots of fonts.

Great We're on 0.92.2 now, not sure if you just cut off the second 2 in your post. If you're really using the 0.92 version, than you might like to update to 0.92.2.
