Hi guys,
I am illustrating the process of a Scanning Electron Microscope at University and am trying to create the effect of a line sinking into a cylinder (or thinking of it in the opposite way, the top of a cylinder being raised but the specific pattern remaining on bottom the surface.
You can see from my VERY basic image I've attached that I am trying to demonstrate a silicon wafer circle (the grey bit) with a film of Electron resist on top (the green circle) with the pattern being etched out of the green film. I would like it to look like the grey pattern is at the bottom of the resist layer.
I have tried various filters and nothing looks quite right.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks
Laura

Re: How can I create a sinking effect?
Hello:
I think i understand. You want that the grey pattern seem "carved" into the green circle, or "extruded" above the green circle. Am I correct?
At the end (I guess) you are trying to perform a 3d view appearance.
There are extensions that simulate a kind of 3d extrusion. See here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ns-Extrude
There are also filters that simulate the efect of a beveling or a 3d border in paths like:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... evels.html
But the results must be controled "by hand". A lot of test and error, maybe. But I think it's doable.
The other option is using 3d programs, like blender or maybe another one
If you are interested, there are ways to export 3d objects to inkscape. To get a clue see here:
