Paths to objects

Postby mindprints » Fri Nov 07, 2014 9:39 pm

For making stencils the Knot LPE is a very useful tool. I can chose the appropiate stroke width, print out the results and use scissors - great.

But if I need to send the results to a 2d cutter the stroke width is a no-go. I need an outline.

One sollution is to export the results of the Knot LPE as a bit map, bring it back in and trace it, giving me the desired outline.

But is there a simpler way to do this?

Can a path be turned into an object so that the object can be turned into a path?

I've tried dynamic offsetting, but that just messes with the Knot results.

Thanks

Clarification: I realize that in Knot the original path is retained so 'path to object' might not be the best sollution. I suppose what I am really after is a "new object from visible" which would turn what I see on the sceen into a new object(s).

Hi.

Try converting the lpe back to a path by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C.

Thanks, 'converting the lpe back to a path by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C.' Was a good suggestion. But though I could print the results I can't export them for cutting. I need somehow to get those visual results (that which I see on my screen) into an object so that I can get the object's outlines. Any more ideas?

To be even more specific:

If I create a line with :tool_rectangle: I can get rid of the fill and I have an outline which the cutter will accept. If I create a line with :tool_pen: I can thicken the stroke to look like the object I created with the :tool_pen: but I can't get an outline from it. The export will only result in the single path and disregard the stroke thickness.

Then press Ctrl+Alt+C to convert the stroke to path as well.
