I recently created a vector in vector magic 1.08 from a .png, with a 2234 x 1979 resolution, and when I exported as an .svg, it appears to maintain the size, but when I import into Inkscape (or even GIMP), it suddenly is a larger resolution. Why is this, and is there anyway to maintain size exported from vector magic?

(And i realize this might sound like a vector magic problem, but it seems like the issue starts as soon as I put it into Inkscape)

Resolution stands for the number of dots/points/pixels that can fill up one phisical distance unit.
The higher the resolution, the less "pixelated" the look is.
While actual screen displays vary in resolution, graphic programs assign a phisical size to the pixels they work with.
Commonly 72 dpi (dot per inch or point per inch for ppi) is used, while inkscape works with 90 dpi.
The problem is only caused by that difference.

For example your image has a size of 2234/1979 pixels,
which is 31,0277/27,4861 inches at a 72 dpi.
In inkscape, if you want to maintain the same size in inches, you would need to multiply the original image's pixel dimensions with 1,25.
That is 2792,5/2473,75 pixels.

Actually it is not a problem, when you save your work as pdf for printing, the inch size will be used by the printer.
Which doesn't change during the process.
