Problem I am beginner and I need help
Problem I am beginner and I need help
Hello everyone!
I am just beginning to use inkscape to create a logo but then not knowing how to use it at the start, to clear areas I put white stripes ...
Now I would like to find out how I see my red outline drawing in order to erase the white stripes .... who can help me?
I apologize for the translation, I am French and I use translation software.

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
Hi, Zionejma. I am not sure I know exactly what you are getting at here. If you just want an object with a red stroke and a transparent fill you would select the object and use the fill and stroke dialog. Please post a picture of what you have now and an example of what you are trying to do so that we can help better.
Actually, I think that should be a general rule for all questions, but especially for non-English speakers -- pictures are worth a thousand words. And svg files maybe a million of them.

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
Welcome Zionejma!
It also helps if you can say what you did, step by step.
What areas?
What do you mean by "clear"? Solid white? Transparent? Erase?
Why stripes?
Are you working with an existing image and trying to modify it? Or are you trying to draw a new image starting with a blank page?
Why can you not see the red outline? Is it covered by the white stripes? I don't understand the white stripes. Why do you now want to erase them?
It sounds vaguely like you might be looking for Path menu > Difference. But there is far too little information for me to be clear about what you're doing and what you want to do.
Using the translation software is fine, as long as we all have patience, and realize that sometimes things don't come out exactly the way we intend.
Wait, isn't there a French-speaking Inkscape forum. Here: http://www.inkscape-fr.org/. Is it still in existance? It looks fine to me when I open the site, but not speaking French, I wouldn't know if it says "Closed" for example. Actually, it looks more like a blog than a forum.....??

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
I wish I could see the drawing with the vectorization. Where I could find the contours that make up my drawing to remove the white I used to hide areas that I did not want?
But the drawing does not appear in preview of the bitmap vectorization and I can not vectorize my drawing.
Vectorization clearly shows the design in green? just the outline? and not red as I said previously.

On a blue background is the result and I want to remove the white ...
You know what I want to do?
I could go all the drawing, but I will not know again the green lines below

And thank you for the link! I had already watched. But nowhere to my questions!
And I have not found other forums!

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
Hi Zion, I am guessing from the look of that last image that you are using the eraser to remove objects. Did you try selecting the objects with
and pressing delete? Sometimes you have to use the ctrl key with the
to select an object if it is within a group.
At this point, I am guessing again, you have a large and fragmented white object you want to get rid of??
You can use alt + the
to select objects just by dragging over a part of them. But this will select all the objects your drag path touches (the line drawn by the
as it moves).
I am not at all sure where the vectorization question comes in. maybe unrelated to your other question??

You might want to switch to outline view (View menu > display mode > outline) Once again in this mode it might be useful to use alt +Where I could find the contours that make up my drawing to remove the white I used to hide areas that I did not want?

Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
But the drawing does not appear in preview of the bitmap vectorization and I can not vectorize my drawing.
It sounds like your original image is in a raster format (JPG, PNG, GIF, for example). Now I understand that you were using white stripes to try and cover up the parts that you didn't want.
In the Trace Bitmap dialog (bitmap vectorization), the Update feature of the Preview does not work for the first option (Brightness Cutoff). For all the other options, you have to click Update to see the preview. For the first option (Brightness Cutoff), you have to click Ok, and if it's not what you want, then Undo. And repeat until you find the right setting for your trace (vectorization). For all the other options, click Update to see the preview.
By the way, do you have Inkscape with the French language? If not, setting up Inkscape in French will probably help quite a lot!
If you can get a successful trace (vectorization), you will not need the white strips. You could just delete the parts you don't want.
Where I could find the contours that make up my drawing to remove the white I used to hide areas that I did not want?
But if you can't get a successful trace (vectorization), you should be able to just click on the white strips with the Selection tool

Now that you know the tip about Update Preview, maybe you can get a good trace (vectorization) of your image, and then just delete what you don't want? That would be the best solution to the problem!

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... Trace.html looks pretty in date to me...
On to your problem. think what you want to do is use a clip path french;[urlhttp://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Clip.html]english[/url]. Basically, you draw over all the areas that you want to see in your drawing; then select both and go object->clip->set

Actually yes! I've been struggling to understand the problem so much that I didn't really see the easy solution. If Zionejma does not really need a vector image (SVG), he/she could just Clip the original raster image, and avoid the trace altogether.

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
Hello I read and reread, I try to work on my drawing but I can not!
The software is in French but I do not understand anything! I'm not gifted!
Does anyone would like me to do?? I know it's asking a lot but I'm not capable. There is nothing to do and it annoys me!

Re: Problem I am beginner and I need help
When I select with the arrow just disappears. I have been unbundled, but it does not work.
I also display menu, display mode and contour and there, there is nothing on the screen.

Oh, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble
If you would like to upload your SVG file (look below the Submit button for "Upload attachment" tab, and follow prompts), then we can download it, open and examine it, and then give you very specific suggestions.
