Geometry Constructions

Postby prokoudine » Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:19 pm

An obvious teaser and, quite possibly, a mocker :)

The live symmetry tool seems very desirable  <--envy

WOW! I'm an engineer and I will be definitely using it extensively. The only bad thing is that I need this kind of functionality now... for my book/paper. Can you give a heads up in this topic when a build with those features will be available?

Isn't there an option to enable it when compiling for the impatient ones?

It really is lost. I never knew it existed.

This geometry tool seems like it could be an excellent addition to Inkscape. If it was rejected because the powers that be felt it didn't work right, then a good response would be to zero in on exactly what their objections were and then adjust the code of the geometry tool to try to nullify the objections.

Maybe the Geometry tool could be made available as a plugin extension? A good place to make it available might be at http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... repository.

No. The Geometry Tool is completely based on LivePathEffects and has no relation to (script) extensions listed in the wiki. Extensions ≠ plugins; and LivePathEffects are not like plugins either. The tool has to be enabled at compile time.

The sources for the Geometry tool have not been rejected - the tool has been disabled in release versions on request of its author (search the archives of the 'inkscape-devel' mailing list for details).

You know the answer: patches are welcome ;)

Yes, and the link in the description of the video says exactly how :)

Unfortuanetely the link is broken. Is there anyone who uses these tools despite the fact they never made to a stable release? I hope they will not be lost forever. Seems to me the video (and the article of course) by LibreGrapicsWorld.org are very convincing. I hope somebody can tell more about the project, and tell if there will be a release in which they will come to life again.
