Hello,
I am a new user to Inkscape (OSX 10.6.8, Inkscape 0.48)
I checked the forum and saw that this issue was referred to several times already, but none of the below answers worked for me...
Problem: when opening a PDF file in Inkscapes, some of the fonts are not recognised, and changed.
(music notation fonts, e.g. Helsinky.dfont, Opus.dfont and such, from Sibelius software).
What I have tried already:
(with the links for the relevant forum discussion)
1. Copying the missing fonts from: [User] > Library > Fonts to: Library > Fonts
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1187
2. Changing the fonts.conf file
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12772
3. First converting my .pdf to .svg and only then opening with Inkscape
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15793&p=58657&hilit=fonts#p58657
4. When importing to Inkscape, unchecking the 'Replace PDF fonts by the closest-namedinstalled fonts'
Funny enough, in Inkscape's text dialog the proper fonts do appear and are ready to use.
Thanks!
ilya

Re: does not recognize fonts
Hello:
W.O.W. It's coincidence? Today there are a lot of problems with font managing and OS X.
Again... There is a problem when importing pdf fonts to Inkscape.
I said this from a user to other.
Do a search in this forum and you will see.

Re: does not recognize fonts
The Sibelius website says it can export SVG... how does that look in Inkscape?
And, do the fonts stay as text, or are they paths?

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: does not recognize fonts
hello, thanks for replying.
- Sibelius ver. 7 only enables export / import of SVG, I am still with 6...
I think as a font, since I am able to select each of the "letters" with the text tool. I am not sure though (as I said, i am new to Inkscape...)
I attach to images:
first one is Inkscape's version, second is how the PDF originally looks. You'll notice that Inkscape is good when dealing with the instrument name and a few other components, but the note heads, the clef sign and time signature are strangely transformed.

I will give another forum search for recent similar topics.

this is an example of what the text editor says:
style="font-size:96px;font-variant:normal;font-weight:normal;writing-mode:lr-tb;fill:#000000;fill-opacity:1;fill-rule:nonzero;stroke:none;font-family:Helsinki;-inkscape-font-specification:Helsinki"></tspan></text>
so it seems the font is still Helsinki, but Inkscape changes the character to
