edit paths tool problem[solved: it's a bug]

Postby nesDk » Sat Aug 18, 2012 7:56 pm

hi

i have this problem under some condition i'm unaware of.

when a :tool_pen: drawn element gets manipulated with :tool_node: , there are some sides of the element that i can't manipulate. unless i randomly move a node around.

does anyone know why this happens or what i can do about it?

Hi,

I guess you're talking about changing the curve's appearance by directly dragging sides of the path, instead of dragging the nodes?

When a side doesn't "react" to dragging, check both adjacent nodes for handles. I guess that at least one of the nodes doesn't show the handle(s), but you can fix this by dragging the node while pressing Shift (to be clear, you won't be dragging the node, but make its handle appear). Now the relevant side should react to dragging.

I'm a little confused why this happens, because some sides with nodes that don't show any handles, can be dragged while others cannot...

Probably related to a known regression (present since 0.47, possibly a bug in 2geom) - affects grabbing and dragging certain segments with the mouse as well as double-clicking it to insert a new node:

I've run into that bug many, many times. In some cases, for example if it's a long stretch between nodes, I just plant an extra node (by selecting the 2 nodes with Shift and click Add Node button on control bar) then usually I can get the little hand to appear. In other cases, I have to resort to using the node handle to drag the curve (like Ailurus said). Yes, a very frustrating bug!
