I have been trying to convert the stroke to path on part of my file. It is text that has been converted to path and then a stroke was added. Nothing happens when I tell it to convert stroke to path. I can convert the stroke of other elements of my drawing. Are there certain requirements to stroke to path? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

When you convert text to path you actually get a group of paths. Ungroup the letters, and then combine them into a single path (Ctrl+K). After that you'll be able to use Stroke to path
