1 trick to redock dialog windows

Postby ScapeGoat » Wed Mar 20, 2013 7:53 am

I searched the web high and low for a solution to my un-re-dockable dialog panels. The problem certainly isn't isolated, and I didn't see any reliable solutions.

It turns out that I only encounter the problem when Inkscape is in full screen mode i.e. I double-clicked on the title bar.

Hopefully, this trick will work for others. I am using Inkscape 0.48 on Windows 7.

Hi.

See this post on how to re-dock a dialog panel in inkscape; http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13648&p=52894&hilit=drag+window#p52894

I tried to double click the title bar as per your tip, on my system (Win 7) this maximizes the window.

Double-clicking the titlebar maximizes a non-maximized window, but the next double-click makes it non-maximized (I never know what to call that  ). But I don't see how making the window either maximized or non-maximized helps with docking the dialogs. I tried just now, and it was much harder to dock in the non-maximized window.

They can be tricky to dock, that is true. The manual explains all the details. Help menu > Inkscape manual :D

Hi, Brynn,

I read that section, and I still had problems. Unmaximizing the Inkscape window helped in some cases. Not always, but often. Other times, I found that I had to close all docked windows before I could re-dock the undocked window. When that happened, the Inkscape window was not maximized. It might be related to the amount of vertical space available in the docking area. In any case, it seems like a black art, and a few things can be tried before giving up. The more things that one can try, each of which somtimes work, the greater the chances of success.
