Linked Node Editing?

Postby ait » Sat Oct 04, 2014 12:26 am

Hello,
I have what may be a simple question...
So I want to edit multiple nodes at the same time and in the exact same way (so that I may achieve symmetry).

In my example I have two nodes across from one another. I am pulling down on one node, the bottom one (it's red in the picture). I would like to be able to somehow link a second node so that the same pulling effect I am applying to the first bottom node is applied to the second node, the top node - see the arrow in the picture which is pointing to said second top node.

I know I can link objects, but I suppose my question is, can I link nodes? and if so how? and how many?

[Note: I know there are work arounds like having the same shape on either side of one shape and performing a Boolean operation to both sides. Or taking a shape and copying it and flipping it. However, I'd like to see if I can link nodes...]

thank you
a

In Inkscape, linking nodes is called "Selecting nodes while holding Shift"
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

Hello
It's not possible to link any nodes from any shape. I doubt that even it will be possible using Live Path Effects or Python Extensions. The SVG specification treats the nodes of a shape as a group, as a one big string of text.

But it's posible some kind of sculpting edition of nodes... which I don't use so much. There are A LOT of options for node editing as you can see here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... iting.html

There is also the :tool_tweak: , but for me, it's hard to manage.

As said by Maestral, the easy way is to select them and edit them
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/index.html
3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

Rectangle select the two nodes at once, then, as suggested in that other topic, move them by their bounding box handles while holding Shift.
Does not really work with curved segments -moving the selected node's handles as well-, other than moving auto-smooth nodes or editing a spiro-path.

to Maestral...I don't see how selecting nodes and holding shift does anything. is there another step I'm missing?

"Linking" nodes with selecting+shift is not permanent but it works like selecting multiple shapes with selecting+shift.
Select one, press and hold shift, select another one - repeat as necessary.

Makes me think a 'lock node' button might be nice addition! It would simply disable any changes to the xml of that node.
Your mind is what you think it is.

And a blender-likewise node edit tool reworking, with remembered node selections, loop selecting, inverse selecting and selecting actions stored in the undo history.
