First of all i wanna thank the InkScape team for this great application, I have been using coreldraw for years but recently i changed to an imac Snow Leopard, and corel doesnt support that.
I read a lot of posts allready about opening .cdr in this version, but im stuck. It works perfectly on my pc, but on my snow leopard i cant open them.
This is my message i get:
You need to install the UniConvertor software.
For GNU/Linux: install the package python-uniconvertor.
For Windows: download it from
http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name= ... iconvertor
and install into your Inkscape's Python location
I would be very greatfull since im pretty new on mac knowledge, but i have about 750 x .cdr files i need to open. Converting them all manually on my old pc to .eps . . . well, that is gonna consume insane lots of time.
If i do indeed need that UniConverter . . . how do i instal it and where can i get a Snow Leopard version ?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings,
Dave.

Yes, you do need it to convert CDR files to SVG on-the-fly when Inkscape opens them. On Windows, UniConvertor is part of the installation package because Inkscape there includes its own python binary, not only the necessary modules for the bundled Inkscape python extensions.
On OS X you have to install UniConvertor yourself, the packaged Inkscape application only includes the lxml and numpy python modules and relies on the default Python installation to run the python script extensions (import/export extensions as well as many of the effects extensions).

You need to download the latest source package from the UniConverter website and figure out how to install Python modules. Unfortunately there are no packaged DMGs for it available and won't be any time soon (I had the chance to ask one of the developers in a related bug report - comments #15-17). If you are not comfortable using the terminal to install python modules - maybe it's the easier way to do the conversion on your pc and then transfer the files.
notes:
- There's another (known) issue with the 0.47 prerelase builds on OS X Snow Leopard that might pop up: python extensions that require one of the bundled modules (lxml, numpy) fail. CDR import should work though but I can't test it - I'm still using Leopard 10.5.8.
- UniConvertor has some serious limits: AFAIK the current version still doesn't support text in CDR files.
