Hi everyone,
I've been having some problems using inkscape to make large posters. I created a 3'x4' poster in inkscape 0.48 with text, etc using Ubuntu 11.04. To maintain portability I converted all the text to paths.
Unfortunately, no fedex office employee has heard of an SVG before, so they typically only take PDFs. I tried saving as a PDF, converting text to paths, etc, but the generated file is so complicated that the document viewers (adobe reader) are unable to render them, throwing an "out of memory" error. If I open the SVG in internet explorer, all the paths load fine (a little slow, but not too bad).
My question is, what are my options when it comes to exporting a file like this to a PDF? is my only option to rasterize it? This route typically leads to an enormous file (300 dpi at 3ft x 4ft is a lot of pixels) and loss of quality (text at 300dpi isnt that sharp).
Has anyone else used inkscape for large posters before? What am I missing?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Best way to save/print complex images
Well, I have just produced an A0 sized (scientific) poster, so...
I exported to PDF without converting text to path first.
Inkscape is capable of embedding the fonts you use (by defult) into the PDF without converting them to paths first. - This is often a more memory efficent way of doing it.
