Stack Dialog Boxes "Minimized" ???

Postby Qwurpy » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:11 pm

Hello,

I accidentally undocked a dialog and in trying to re-dock, I somehow got the configuration seen in my attachment. Notice they are stacked horizontally with a "maximize-type" up arrow. Clicking on each will bring the dialog to the top. You can see I tried to add the "Layers" dialog, but it just stacked as a regular expanded dialog.

I'm not sure how I got it because I can't recreate it, but for me this is MUCH better than the "iconify to the right."

I've searched this forum/google/youtube... no luck. Can anyone tell me how to get this layout again?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum :D

I'm not sure exactly how, but I think you have to drop it in exactly the right place. Every now and then I'll undock a dialog, and when I try to redock it, I get that kind of configuration. I happen not to like it, so I just keep undock and redock, until it looks like I want. For this reason, I try not to undock unless I have to.

When you're dragging the dialog, and the mouse pointer looks like the 4 way arrow, I think you have to drop it in a certain place. I just don't know where that is. Maybe the manual has some info on that? I'll look..... Ok, yes it does! It explains where to drop to achieve certain configurations: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... atomy-Dock

Thank you for your quick reply. I actually did read the manual, but couldn't get it to replicate. I followed your link again to see if I missed something, and sure enough, I did (sort of).

The manual states: "Drop a dialog in the center and it will replace the current dialog, with both dialogs listed as tabs at the bottom."

What it doesn't state is that you need to grab a lower dialog and drop in the center of the one above it. That's what does the trick!

Thanks again for your help!

Cooooool, it works quite well!

It doesn't seem it needs to be a lower dialog. I can drag any dialog (floating or docked) and place it in the center of another one to create tabs.

So Inkscape's interface is even more customisable than GIMP's that also have dialogs than can be stacked or tabbed.

I use Inkscape 0.48 on Ubuntu 12.04.
English is not my natural language so excuse my mistakes.
