Sometimes I copy paste color codes in Fill and Stroke panel results in different color codes

Postby notalentgeek » Wed Dec 13, 2017 8:17 pm

I copy paste color codes from SublimeText, for example, let say: "073b4cff". There is a chance (quite often) when I copy the color codes to "rgba" text field in Fill and Stroke panel the color codes turn into "0634441c". I cannot even edit the color manually: adding a letter or backspace result in whole different color codes.

What are the cause? This actually drives me crazy.

Seems to work here pasting various rgba codes into the Inkscape F-S panel.

Are you working in RGB, and not some custom profile?

At the time you paste and the color code changes, can you paste the code into another text program/area and see if the copy operation from ST is correctly copied?
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

The profile question sounds like the most relevant one.

Additionally, what is your operating system? Are you using some special kind of clipboard manager? Does it work if you deactivate it?

I have no clue on what you meant by "working in RGB". As far I am concerning, I left InkScape as default as it is. The only configurations are for Document Properties (grids and paper size).

Anything but InkScape paste my color codes correctly.

Additionally, what is your operating system?

16.04 Xubuntu

I used InkScape for years already. Only for light task like designing laser cut pattern. I feel like something like this only happened now. Perhaps, the problem is either OS specific or related to my current project (in term of resolution this is the biggest so far, around 2000 x 3000 pixels).

Are you using some special kind of clipboard manager? Does it work if you deactivate it?

No!

Restarting InkScape does not solve the problem.

The only work around is to copy paste the text into new text object. But, because my laptop lagged, when doing so is very inconvenient.

Based from my observation, this only happened (often) when I tried to change the color for a part of text (not all text in a text object).

That's weird, indeed. I'm on Linux Mint 18.2, Xfce edition, so that's the same OS base and even the same desktop.
I'm not sure, but perhaps if you made a screen recording, this could give us a clue (no promises).

Oh, I can absolutely confirm that typing the color code into the hexcode field does not work. When you type the first character, the field fills up automatically the rest of the original code. It has the same effect as if you had highlighted the first character and changed it. It's entirely impossible to type in the whole code!

You can only paste in a whole code. (Well you could paste in a partial code, but why....)

I never have investigated whether there's a bug, because it's easy enough to copy/paste the whole code, rather than type it in. Might be worth investigating anyway (now that we have a complaint posted).

Seems to be different here...

Oh, indeed, it has been fixed! I've been pasting the whole code in there for so long it's become a habit. But now I see that it is possible!

Do we know which version notalentgeek is using? Of course I have no idea when it was fixed. But I have a few older versions around, so I'll test.

Ok, I've checked all the way back to 0.48, and it works fine. So it must have been fixed a really long time ago. So it doesn't seem like this would be the op's problem. But his description sounds exactly like what I used to see.

Edit
Actually I'm on a new computer since the last time I saw this problem. I wonder if it could somehow be connected to something about the computer system, rather than Inkscape.

That old computer was still working, the last time I used it....mostly. So I could cross my fingers and try to fire it up and test, if it were to become helpful.
