"Failed to load the requested file"

Postby DisappearingRocks » Fri May 19, 2017 4:00 am

I've seen a few topics in here on this matter, but I haven't understood the exact fix (and the options I've explored hasn't worked).
So, my computer crashed while I was working on a poster in Inkscape, and I committed rookie mistake #1 and didn't have a back up of this file. Now, when I try to open it I get "Failed to load the requested file[...]" and re-naming or moving the file didn't help.
I also had a friend try to open it on his computer, and he got the same error msg.
Opening it in Chrome gives me "This page contains the following errors: error on line 1 at column 1: Document is empty", and opening the file in NotePad gives me a large number of lines with invisible text/blank spaces.

Is there any hope I can recover at least some of the file, or is it completely dead?
With many thanks in advance for anyone who can (or try) to help me!

Upload the file somewhere and I'll have a look at it.

My hex editor says nothing there but zeros.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

:-/ Just in case you haven't stumbled about it during your research: Autosave can be activated in the settings, via Edit -> Preferences -> Input/Output -> Autosave, to prevent further losses.

Yeah, I will definitely be more diligent about back ups now. Thanks for reminding me about the auto save :)

I'm sorry but I got to confirm what tylerdurden said : the file is empty (full of Zeroes) so there's nothing that can be done. Except tweaking the settings as advised so that it does not occur in the future

Gotcha. Thanks for taking the time to look at it.
