Thanks! Hope you have a good year with "your Gregory". :D

And also, please Santa, I know it's too late, but 0.91 please? (according to this it should be ready :))

It sounds like there are some last minute glitches and fixes to be done. I think the current dev version is 0.91pre3, and I saw on the mailing list where they said there might be a pre4, before the final release.

Thank you, "my Gregory" and I will have a wonderful year. :)
I'm really looking forward to the new version of Inkscape - as far as I understand it would come with the Gradient Mesh tool - is that correct?

And you didn't even notice that "2015" isn't centered? :D

I doubt that the Gradient Mesh tool will be in the standard 0.91 builds. The SVG2 spec (which introduces gradient meshes to SVG) is still some way off being finalised, and after their history with flowed text I doubt very much that the devs will want to release a version that supports a premature version of the spec.

The developer who maintains the fork with gradient mesh support is part of the W3C working group for SVG, so his builds of Inkscape are intended as an experimental test bed to help define the forthcoming spec, rather than the implementation being derived from the spec as is the usual case for Inkscape functions.

How would I be able to add this tool to the new version of Inkscape - if possible? :)

The experimental version of Ponyscape has an early version of the gradient mesh tool. (At least it did not too long ago. Not sure about now.) It might not work very well yet -- I'm not sure.

Maestral - I have read the thread you were linking to and I am still puzzled ....will we have the gradient mesh or not?

Oh, well... GM was available in those earlier builds (r12483, 12395, 12248...) and you`ll might need to edit those few lines of text in Preferences file, and it would work for you along with the shortcuts, spice and everything nice.

OTOH, I haven`t tried the newer builds and don`t know if GM is still there.

p.s.
Have you found a link in that thread for downloading builds? Give it a try and if you stumble, cry out loud ,)

I'll cry out loud anyway as there are lots of links and I don't get it :)

I use Inkscape 0.48 and there is no Shortcuts options in File/Inkscape Preferences.

I'll need a tutorial on how to add features to Inkscape :)

I almost feel your crying, whilst I hoped for just hearing it ,)

If you`r not that experienced with editing system files, perhaps the best solution would be to:
- find and play some relaxing music
- turn toward window or some interesting painting/photo
- after a while, you might forget about my post and eventually remain patient till official edition arrives.

Otherwise, in that thread, you`ll find links for downloading latest builds, some tips and links for finding, editing and adjusting preferences.xml file. After that and a few hours with gradient mesh you might reach the same state of serenity as if you listened to some relaxing music during a wonderful sunset. 8-)

Thank you, Maestral - I believe that I'm still able to learn and I'll try that out :D
"Never give up" is my motto and I would always be able to save copies of system files - meantime while I'm having fun with those files I might be patient and wait for the official edition!

Off to take back up and set a restore point on my PC :D

You should follow latest links (druban said it works in this one) and for editing shortcuts this link should help. I haven`t read it all now, but what you might need also is C:\Users\(yourUserName)\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\Preferences.xml

What was it about adding features? Extensions, plugins or something else? If previous, just (unpack) add to the appropriate folder(s) inside the Inkscape root folder (C:\Program Files...), and step one or two steps away from the computer before deploying them for the first time.

Thank you :)

I would easily be able to add a <bind key= etc. />

<bind key="F1" modifiers="Ctrl" action="ToolGradient" display="true" />
<bind key="g" action="ToolGradient" />
<bind key="G" action="ToolGradient" />

<bind action="GradientPrefs" />

Just bear in mind that, until it's enabled by default in the standard Inkscape release, there's no guarantee that any files created using a gradient mesh will continue to work in future releases.

Pdf-s can save gradient meshes. So there is an open specification somewhere on it.
But not in the svg specs.

As much trouble the flowed text caused, I don't think it will be included by default until it will be part of the svg.

By the way, what if a loop shaped (closed, filled) path -with segments crossing eachother- has a gradient mesh applied on?
How could a gradient mesh be formed to a loop shape, what to render at the intersections? That is no easy go in my opinion, but would need to think over by the developers.
