Dear Inkscape users,
I would like to ask if it possible to remove a word I added by mistake to my dictionary while I was doing a spell check. I do not seem to find this option, or other posts in the forum that deal with this.
I am using Inkscape 0.48 in Linux Mint Rebecca (17.1).
Thank you in advance for your help!!
Juan
Remove word from spell check dictionary
Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
I suppose you would find the dictionary file, and delete the word. But I have no idea where to find it. I've looked through the Inkscape installation, but either there's no dictionary file there, or it's not named by something recongnizable.
It works so quickly, I don't think it's using an external dictionary. So I think it must be there somewhere. I just don't know where.
And by the way, now I also need to find it, because I added a non-word to mine, to test!

Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
I find it hard to believe no one else has asked this question before (this was the only thread about it I could find), but after a bit of poking around I figured it out.
I'm running Inkscape 0.48.5 on Windows; using the English spellcheck dictionary. In the main Inkscape folder I found a file titled "en.pws" which seems to contain a list of every word I've added. I just opened it in Notepad and deleted the incorrect word. Problem solved! I assume if you're using a different language the file will be named something other than "en" but I haven't experimented with it. Hope that fixes things!

Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
I don't see such a file in the main Inkscape folder, or anywhere else. In 0.48.5 or 0.91
I see some in the lib/aspell-0.60 folder that are somewhat close, such as en-variant_0.rws. There are several files with RWS extension, but none with pws. Maybe a typo? Another en-common.rws. But opened with Notepad, is full of....well, it's not a list of words.
Hhmm, it has words in it though -- alphabetized words, among all kinds of symbols. But such a file should only contain 1 word...or non-word. The one I entered when trying to solve the problem of the op. I don't normally use a spellchecker. I guess I'm from a different generation, where you depended on only yourself for proofreading.

Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
I know this is a old post however to give it a solved the file that is in text format (PWS) shows up in the root folder of inkscape
C:\Program Files\Inkscape\*.pws
C:\Program Files\Inkscape\*.pws
Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
I have no such file.
I don't use spell check, but that non-word that I entered months ago, is probably still there!
Maybe necessary for me to enable spell checking, to find that file???

Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
On Windows system you end up with
.aspell.en.prepl
.aspell.en.pws
I got the system to generate them using Create and edit text objects
having the check spelling Ctrl-Alt-K
highlight the gibberish you've typed and then click start then Add near the en_us
That's how I ended up getting those files and as I always use a tool that tells me what new files are created every time (I test way too many programs and they leave way too much junk)
I'll test the same under Ubuntu and see where it generated the file.
As a suggestion you could always do a text search on the files for the word you created as it was text based saved.
Shawn
I'll get back with the update on Ubuntu on where it is stored.
Edit : Found them they are located for me in :
/home/shawn/.aspell.en.prepl
/home/shawn/.aspell.en.pws
So I'm assuming /home/loginuser/ files in question.
used this command on root to find where it was : "find / -type f -iname "*spell*"
.aspell.en.prepl
.aspell.en.pws

Re: Remove word from spell check dictionary
Just to update for windows installations, I found the dictionary file in:
C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape
There are two files, en.prepl and en.pws
en.pws contains the list of added words, and can be simply edited with a text editor
