Cut to face of milling bit
Cut to face of milling bit
I am trying to cut gears out after I render but am lost. It cuts to the center of bit and makes toothpick gears and I need it to cut to the face of the cutter. All works fine for laser but I keep missing what is needed to mill with the cutters.
Re: Cut to face of milling bit
It's a bit hard to visualize what the problem might be. Can you share a bit more information, maybe the file or a simplified version of the file with the problematic object?
Are you aware if it is a drawing problem or about your cutter settings?
It seems like it starts to do what you want it to do, if you want the gear shape cut out so you get a gear shaped hole, right? Should it do the opposite? Cut around the gear to get a gear-shaped object?

Re: Cut to face of milling bit
This sounds lik a CAM type of issue... inset, outset, centered.
If Inkscape is used to generate a toolpath, try inset or outset the width of the tool. Keep in mind, Inkscape will not generate loops or dogbones for corners like a CAM program will.

Have a nice day.

Re: Cut to face of milling bit
Using the gear render then the file it makes. Thank you folks put me back on the trail. I felt the offsets do this just have not had one work yet.
Re: Cut to face of milling bit
Yes but the cutter centers on the cut line rather than using face of cutter so it removes more than it should.prkos wrote:It's a bit hard to visualize what the problem might be. Can you share a bit more information, maybe the file or a simplified version of the file with the problematic object?
