erasing text and brush strokes

Postby td3201 » Fri Oct 04, 2013 3:28 am

Hello,

I just started using Linkscape. Great app. I have a simple image where I have some text and filled in a portion of the text using a brush tool. Now I want to go back and erase part of the result so that it no longer has any text color or brush color (transparent background would show through). The eraser tool doesn't appear to be working for me in this case. I am sure there's a better way to do what I want here. Only one layer at this time.

The text is a simple lower case "e" where I am filling in the hole of the "e" and going back and putting a smaller dot where the hole used to be. Thanks!

Hi there!

Select the "e",
press
Ctrl+Shift+C to convert it to a path,
Ctrl+Shift+G to ungroup it,
Ctrl+Shift+K to break it apart.
Then you can select the "hole" path and delete it.

After you have a "filled e", draw that smaller dot and move it in position,
then subtract it from the "e" shape below it.

Good luck!

Thank you for your response. I am really close I think. My shape has changed a little bit. Instead of filling in the E, I want to now simply draw lines (transparent showing through) in my shape. I believe the steps are the same. I drew a line using the bezier tool, selected it and the path below, changed the stroke width, and hit CTRL + - to erase that shape from the bottom shape. It works but the part erased from the bottom path is extremely small. How do I increase the size of what is subtracted from the bottom layer?

Nevermind. I had to convert stroke to path then it retained the size.
