Font Issue Question

Postby MelM » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:09 pm

Hi....I'm new to Inkscape and still learning all the ins and outs of the program.

I have downloaded a font that I added to the Inkscape font folder but it is not working in Bold. It is a "light" font (thin lettering) and the properties only say it comes in light, but I can make it bold in Word and also in Gimp no problem. Is there a way to be able to change any settings in Inkscape to be able to make it bold in Inkscape too?

I have Inkscape version 0.48.1.0 - not sure what other information you need to be able to best answer, but let me know.

Thanks!
Mel

Thanks for your reply and helpful tips Pilosopong Tasyo! This font does not have a Bold version, but I will try the methods you suggested and see what I can do with it. Interestingly enough, after I posted my question I was perusing some of the latest posts and read up on the Linked Offset option and it dawned on me that it might be a good option to try - I didn't know about that one (still learning what all the options do). It worked but made it a little bolder than I was looking for. I was having problems moving the diamond and being able to control the exact distance I wanted to move it - there was a delay after trying to move it...I'd put my cursor on it to drag it up but the diamond stayed put...then I'd wait for a few seconds and the diamond would eventually move and change the font thickness, so I never knew how far it was going to go - if that makes sense. I don't know what that issue was all about but I gave up. I liked learning about another feature though :)

I'm going to try the other methods you listed and see if one of those will work better. If none of those work, I do have one other font that I can use in its place that is sort of similar, though my first preference is this font.

As an aside (and another question), I was also trying to curve the text around a circle after I used the linked offset option but it would not work. I have done this before so I know how to do it but never with text that had been linked offset...can you not curve text that has been changed with the linked offset feature?
