Printing Large File to PDF

Postby Rbassett » Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:40 am

Hello,

I have been using Inkscape for a while (fabulous product), but I am now having a printing issue.

I have created a large banner (82.5"H x 34"W). Everything prints to PDF (I set the PDF page size correctly) accept for one object on the page. I have tried 2 different PDF generators and each gave the same result.

I have attached the file that is giving me grief.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Randy

Another piece of info I noticed:

The object that goes missing when I try to create a large PDF has a drop shadow. When I remove the drop shadow, the object shows up in the PDF.

Seems I am having an issue with objects with drop shadows while trying to print large PDFs.

Thanks,
Randy

Seems the renderer chokes on the big filter and kills the object on export to pdf.

I hacked a workaround by making the drop in two small pieces and rasterizing the drop at 100dpi.

PDF looks good here.

Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Cleaned up a bit the file.
That filter indeed was too much.
Changed it to a simple blurring.
Be aware that your photograph embedded is 455/165 pixels,
scaled in width to 34" -which makes a resolution of 13,38 dpi.
That is very low even compared to the overall size of the image.
But if that's ok, the rasterisation of the filters can be lowered to 20 dpi as well.

-With 50 dpi it coud be saved to pdf fine, but somehow it didn't work at 100. I would worry about the raster images more.

Hello,
It seems solved. That's good because my experience wasn't successful

I tried to print with a virtual pdf printer, pdfcreator, which in other oportunities had been much better than the save to pdf dialog in inkscape. I tried clipping the design to a rectangle equal to the page. But It seems that the better solution is to simplify the filter effect.
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.
