Hello I'm making a game, and now I'm trying to make the level select screen look good. I decided to go for a trophy cabinet. The finished version will have the level number on each trophy and bronze, silver and gold trophies filling the cabinet.
I'm really struggling with the shading of the trophies.
This out of the 3 versions of trophy I think might be the closest to being good.
But I'm not sure how to finish the shading. How would I shade the handles or the bottom? I would love to know if you think what shading I have on it is done correctly. The method I used was just to copy the object and add one gradient that goes from black to transparent, then just adjusted the alpha. I then added another layer and did the same thing with a white gradient to add some light.
The second trophy has more of a cartoon look. And I do like this, but I'm not sure where else to add black shapes to represent the shadows.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello:
Well,...
- The shadows, more or less must follow the shape of the object. In your drawings, the shadows are too lineal, You can use blured paths, but it consumes pc resources. Maybe it's better to use radial gradients, and sub-divide the object.
- You must check the direction of the light. If the light is in front of the object, then the sides must be more obscure. I think that i should have added more lights to the object, well maybe.
-Try to use a real object as model, even a metalic spoon may be used as a model for the lights and shadows, and the material reflected
-I think that the gold color is not yellow, but more obscure, or with a little orange.
greetings

Thanks both of you for replying. Both of your cups look incredible. Lazur, yours actually looks like real life. Amazing. I would love to know how you both did those drawings, do you think it would be possible to show a photo that includes the paths and gradient handles, so I can learn how to achieve that kind of effect? Can you recommend any tutorials that show advanced shading in inksape on more curved objects?
Although I admit I'm not going to try and get mine to look as good as yours, if I waited for me to develop those kind of skills I wouldn't finish my game until 2040. lol I'm just trying to get artwork a little better for each game.
Anyway, I'm blown away, by both of your tallents. Amazing.

It was modelled and rendered in blender.
The basic shape is a solid of revolution which can be modelled easily.
Here is a tutorial on that:

Will try to draw one in inkscape as well.

Here is an open clipart made from it:
And here is a link for some steps in the process:

Could be much better but it would take more time than the result would show.
Until gradient meshes will be available there is no efficient way of doing such things in inkscape.

Re: Level Selection Screen Trophy Cabinet
Thanks again. I saved the image and realized that I could open it up in inkscape. I had never thought of that. I will use it to learn from. Thank you. Although if you ever see my finished game don't be disppointed if the trophies look a lot simpler. haha I've got them to a standard that I think is acceptable for now, and it's time for me to move on and finish the game. But I'll practice drawing your trophy, just for the learning experience.

No problem, good luck!
