Kerning ([alt]+[arrows]) not working on Ubuntu Linux

Postby Abras » Wed Apr 13, 2011 3:58 am

Hi there.

I am a complete newbie, trying to get my feet wet -- and do something useful -- with Inskcape by creating a banner for my new blog. Trouble is, kerning isn't working for me. [Alt]+[<] (or [>]) works, but [alt] + the arrow keys does not.

I'm using Ubuntu Linux, version 9.10, as well as Inkscape, 0.47. I am using the Gnome window manager, and yes, I've already checked to make sure the arrow keys work at all. :D

So any help would be greatly appreciated! I love this program, so far, but this is definitely a bit of an annoying speed bump.

Thanks in advance,
Abras

[Alt]+key is often bound to other operations in Linux desktops. You may be able to find what it's bound to and unbind it via the Keyboard Shortcuts control panel. Alternatively you'll find that holding down the [Windows] key as well as [Alt] usually causes [Alt] to behave as it should in Inkscape.

I always set the Windows key to be the one that moves windows, Alt key is used for that by default. Then I can use Alt key in Inkscape normally. You can set that under System > Preferences > Windows.
