Color differences in priting and web.

Postby juampiursic » Sun Oct 06, 2013 2:02 pm

First of all, hi guys, i'm new in here as you can see and new but not so new in using Inkscape, i've been trying to use it since i really like Linux so the two things keeping me from making the change are games and Adobe CS,the announcement of SteamOS got me a liitle hyped and i'm trying to really use Inkscape and Scribus to replace Ai and iD but i got a couple of problems.

I'm doing really well with Scribus, far more than with inDesign but the problem is Inkscape, can't hit the color rights, guess it's some kinda problem with color management, first of all i hate the tabs in Color with RGB, CMYK, and a couple more, wish they change whether i started the document as RGB or CMYK but no, so can't hit the color that i see in my monitor and the one that is printing.

This also happens me with RGB, i redesign UIs only for fun, and when i wanna send some files to my phone to see the app in screen format the colors are nothing compared to the ones in the monitor and this is screen to screen not like i said earlier with trying to print it well, so hope someone can help me here.

Thanks!

PS: Sorry if i made a mistake, english is not my first language.

Inkscape has some difficulties in exporting proper CMYK colors, but since your questions are already answered and elaborated on this forum, I`ll suggest to use "Search..." with the key words CMYK or scribus or colors or printing .... although, I`m still not quite sure what might be the problem with the monitor/screen colors except for a different color modes. You should check which one is used on your phone, or perhaps it`s just the app in which you`re viewing the files?

I wouldn't expect to see consistency in color between screens (or print) unless they are calibrated to a standard.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Did a search after i posted but before it was approved, found something but some old threads and nothing really clear. I found a couple of web pages talking about this, to download color profiles from Adobe and using them in Inkscape to make colors more accurate, and i'm on it, gonna see if the results in printing are OK.

I have a Lumia 920, doing some app redesign just for fun, and colors in laptop are what i want but then when i pass them to the phone, .png, .jpg or .pdf to open with Adobe Reader they are not the same but i tried to use color profile sRGB that comes with Inkscape and found that color is really more accurate than before using CMS and selecting color profile sRGB linked to document.

I'm gonna keep trying with that of color profiles, i have to print some things that i did on Scribus and hope those gonna came out right.

Yeah but, if i do something in RGB with Illustrator and then pass it to my phone it reassembles almost the exact color but with Inkscape it is clearly not even close, i know that color between screens and between screen and print are gonna be a bit different, you may print almost the exact color, maybe you gotta try it again but with Adobe CS didn't have any problems, i know that Inkscape has problems with CMYK but the strange thing for me is that even RGB was too BAD but now like a i said above using color profile did a better job, gonna keep trying on that and when i get the almost exact color match between screens and in print i'm gonna post it here, cause all the other threads i found weren't clear enough.

I`m glad to hear that you`ve managed to find your way with color profiles, even with my misspelling ("...except for a different color modes." where modes should be replaced with profiles) but what is it left so unclear for you?! Are you up to find a way how to adjust brightness, contrast, color profiles or similar on others screens when they are viewing your files? It would be something like a remote-auto-adjuster-of-screens-on-others-devices - right?

Didn't understand the last part, i used a color profile in Inkscape and now RGB colors are more accurate using that profile with CMS, if a choose cyan that cyan is almost the same in my Lumia 920 or the other PC i have (i use Inkscape, Scribus and GIMP in my laptop) but what i couldn't try so far is printing, didn't have the chance but will report back when i try.
