Newbie - object select and move - problem.

Postby ragstian » Fri Jan 04, 2013 10:48 am

Hi

As a "newbie" I am struggling with something simple:

1 - I select an object with left mouse click,
2 - without moving the mouse pointer I then press and hold the left mouse button to move the selected object - another object is then selected and moved!

See below image:
As an example I select the shade on the eyelid and confirm that the correct object is selected by looking at the status in the lower left corner of the Inkscape window. (The bounding box is larger than the object due to the filter effects).
When pressing the left mouse button the group containing the eyelashes are picked up. How can I select and move the first object without locking the eyelashes group in a separate layer?

Any tips would be appreciated.

1. Use the arrows to move things once they are selected.
2.In your Inkscape preferences under Input/output>Input devices> reduce the 'grab sensitivity' to make selecting things by accident (or by purpose) harder. Try halving whatever it's currently set to. If your prefs are different try looking in all the tabs for this item.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Hi.

Thanks druban, reducing the 'grab sensitivity' worked like like a charm!
Just out of curiosity as I see you got answers to almost all what we "newbies' struggle with - how did you get your wast level of knowledge?

 Thanks, Ragnar. I'm just a user who spends a lot of time with the program.... and the forum. Just answering the questions is one way to become familiar with the program.
 Plus, Inkscape is written very math-logically, so if I think that some way to do something is math-logical, chances are that's actually the way the programmers did it, too, if that makes sense :D
