Some newbie questions

Postby Guest » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:35 pm

Hi all,
i love Inkscape ! :D

But some questions:
- i need to put a circle in a certain position inside a large rectangle. Is there a tool to get the distance from a point or object side ? Or the only way is to calculate it by the horz and vert rulers?

- is there a way to save a relative path for the imported images? Or do I need to remove manually from the xml saved file?

- i put a guide n the sheet and then i snap a circle(s): is it possible to move circle(s) moving the guide?

Thanks a lot !!

I think I would use grid for that, make the objects the correct sizes and just position them using the grid. Snapping comes in very handy here :)

Relative paths are automatically saved, why do you want to remove it? There is an option to embed images in your svg document, so when you send your svg to someone else they also get the images, it's under Effects > Images.

That's an interesting feature, to move snapped objects with the guide. There's a blueprint for improving guides http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php ... mprovement but I don't see something like your suggestion there, maybe it falls under snapping category. I think your should make a request for it https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+filebug.

You could use Transform under the objects menu to move something to a specific point. Shift Cntl M Remember to uncheck the move relative. Or you could use tile clone if want to put multiple copies of a path on a grid. Transform probably calculates offsets from the starting node or a bounding box corner rather than the center. I forget I don't use it too much. Or you could do an alien on the rectangle and the circle then do move relative on the circle.
