How do I save work as a jpeg o png image and to not open in

How do I save the completed image, or drawing, so that it is small, not so many bytes and so it doesnt open in Internet explorer.
I want it small, about 60kb and saved as a image so I can upload it onto a social network site, but it just opens as internet explorer and opens large when I click the saved document. I prefer Gimp, because you can save it as a jpeg image or png.

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

The way to save the image you made in Inkscape as PNG is to use File menu > Export Bitmap. You can use File menu > Vacuum Defs (before exporting) to remove any potential unused data, but it's not likely to make the file very much smaller. But exporting the PNG will make it smaller. If that doesn't make it small enough, then the only way to make it smaller will be to remove some content. If you have Windows, then when you double-click on the PNG file, it should open in Windows Photo Viewer. If you want it to open somewhere else, you should open that program first, then use that program to open the PNG. For example, if you want to open it in GIMP, open GIMP, then click File > Open in GIMP. Inkscape can't save files as JPG at this time.
