can't print with Windows 7
can't print with Windows 7
I've been using inkscape ever since I found it free on the internet. Never had any problem printing until I got my new computer with windows 7. Tried every suggestion on line to get it to work with no success. When you hit print, a page would come up showing your default printer. For me it is an hp 4500. When I would hit print, it would just set there and do nothing. Found out that even though it showed my HP 4500 as my default printer, I would still have to hit, "add printer', then tap on my printer, then print, it would work. I'm thinking this has something to do with Windows 7, since I didn't have the problem before.

Now when you say "tap on your printer" do you mean you have a touchpad mouse, and you tap the mouse while it's hovering over your printer in the list? Or do you mean that you're tapping on your actual printer, with your fingers or fist? If you have to tap or bang on the printer to make it work, I'd say you need to call the repairman.
Or do you mean that you have to keep adding the printer, over and over, each time you try to print?
Are you saying that this only happens with Inkscape? Or does it happen with any program? I know with my printer (also an hp) it takes a minute before it starts to print. How long do you wait before deciding it's not going to print?
I haven't heard of any problem that's unique to Windows 7. But printing is not exactly one of Inkscape's strong features. A lot of people have trouble printing from Inkscape. And particularly a lot of hp users. You can search Launchpad for "hp printer" and find several bugs. They are more related to hp, than to Win7, as far as I can tell. https://launchpad.net/inkscape The best info I've found (although I haven't tried it myself -- I don't print from Inkscape) is to set up the printer as a Post Script printer. I don't even know what that means, so I can't tell you how. But that's the only clue I have about it.

Re: can't print with Windows 7
I'm saying using the mouse click on the add printer, then mouse click on the default print below the add printer. Mine being the HP 4500. Then mouse click on print. I have to do this every time to print my drawings. I'll have to try this launchpad.net/inkscape. I'm still holding to - "never had this trouble printing in Inckscape with windows XP".
