Hi
I've been trying to re-create the angel wing according to this youtube but I'm stuck. So once the wing is created then the tutorial shows selecting it, copy to clipboard. Then selecting the freehand line, mode: create spiro path, smooth 42 and shape is "from clipboard". Supposedly at that point i should be able to draw a slightly curved line and the copy of the "angel wing" from the clipboard would distort along the line path. It doesn't do that. I get a straight line with the wing copied at the tail end.
I'd like to know how to do this as I need to at lettering to a curved path for a drawing as well as doing this with other drawings.
I've attached a video showing that its not working. This is what i'm doing >> https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oMgA_4 ... sp=sharing
this is the original youtube. >>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW_KfiI8wRo
Seem like it should be straightforward but I'm not getting the same results.
Thanks.

Your video doesn't play for me.
The only thing I could suggest (until I can see the video, and maybe SVG file would help too) would be to double check the Pencil control bar, that you have everything right. It sounds like you might not have the Shape set right. But impossible to guess.

The embedded video doesnt work for me, but i was able to download.
I dont know what is happening with your workflow and it is indeed odd, but here is what you can try instead. Its the same as using the Bezier or Pencil Tool, but without the clipboard functionality, which is a shortcut to the LPE's anyway.
You can distort the wings either with the Bend LPE or the Pattern Along Path (PaP) LPE.
Make your wings path, copy it to the clipboard. Apply the Bend LPE to the wing, then use the node tool symbol in the LPE dialogue to bend the wing into the desired shape.
Similar with the PaP LPE. Copy the wing as the "pattern" to the clipboard.
Draw a path with the Bezier Tool.
Select the path, apply the Pap LPE and use the paste pattern option.
Set to 'Single Stretched', then use the Node Tool symbol to distort.
Not sure what you mean with lettering.
If you want to put text on a curve that is preferably done with Text -> Put on path, because you have more options than using PaP.

Hi
Thanks for the info. I did discover why my Pencil tool pattern to path was not working. It was the setting in XQuartz (X11) preferences. I have reset them according to this >>> https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/
Now it works.
I am still interested in your suggestions and will try them too. Good to learn more ways.
