Eraser tool and current selection

Postby cabarete_cub » Tue Aug 27, 2013 3:15 am

Hello everybody,

Eraser tool always starts with erasing currently selected object,
which is sometimes not very convenient. Is there a way to configure
the tool to disrespect current selection?

Thanks in advance

The reason I asked about this functionality is that my (emerging) workflow is as follows: I draw several beziers,
then edit them. Sometimes I want to erase a couple I just drawn, so I don't select anything explicitly - the last
drawn object is selected for me, which is mostly a good thing, but not in this specific case.

Eraser tool doesn't really fit into "select-command" paradigm. Once the selected object is gone, it works more
like a negative drawing tool. Hence my confusion. Especially since there's also Delete, working exactly like you
describe.

Thank you for your explanation. I checked the Preferences and Configuration chapter, of course. I am new to
Inkscape and was more like trying to figure how others are using it.

Hitting Escape (I had to program one of the buttons on the Bamboo since I am usually holding it in my hands
while working) was the route I took. Will probably get used to it soon enough. Thanks again for the replies.
