Divide image into two separate parts

Postby searchman » Sat Dec 09, 2017 9:05 am

I have an image that is to long to cut on my plasma table. How do I divide the image into two individual images so I can cut one at aa time?

It depends on the image... You might want to share an example image so we can best advise.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

...and just out of curiosity....

Are you planning to weld/fasten the two pieces together? Do they need any overlap?

The two cut pieces will be welded together.

You can attach an svg file to a reply on this board, or link to an svg file shared on dropbox, drive, etc.

After the image is traced to make a single closed path, make a single line (path) across the traced object and use Menu: Path>Division. The single line will cut the object into two closed pieces.

I have attempted to duplicate your instructions by watching your curser ( Tool ) and where it goes to do what. Also reading the written instructions. I guess I am not fast enough to follow. I have attempted this splitting procedure 2 dozen times at least and failure everytime. Seems like I am missing a step some where. Thanks

My steps from the beginning :

Open jpg file.
Select and trace bitmap to create closed path seen in the above clip.
Delete original jpg.
Draw single, stroked path using bezier pen, across traced outline.
Select both objects (path and outline), single path must be on top.
Path - divide operation.

Please share your SVG file if you need more help.
