Hi,
I'm totally new to inkscape however I'm taking first steps.
Imagine I have a arc or simple Beziers line and simple rectangle as well. Can I make my rectangle alligned with arc line somehow?
I do not expect that it will be so much easy like with text on path but basicly this is my point - to put object on path.
For example If I would like to crate effect similar to Salvador Dalis clocks ( La persistencia de la memoria) I think this can be usefull.
Any ideas gods od inkscape? ;]
Kind regards,

Object on path? Cool.
Re: Object on path? Cool.
Welcome to InkscapeForum!
Unfortunately, the image you describe does not come readily to mind (I've never studied art in that way). So I need to know how you want the rectangle aligned with the path. ....well actually, if it's famous, I can probably find it by searching..... I've found a few different "dali clocks". But the one that seems to be Dali's art, looks kind of like a western US setting, where a clock is hanging over a tree branch, as if it were a horse blanket.....and another one bends around a 90 degree angle. Is that the one you mean?
Inkscape certainly could draw an image like that, although it would take some skill, for sure. But I think you may be asking if Inkscape can do it automatically? And the answer is -- not that I know of. There are a handful of tools which can generally bend things, and one of them, the LPE Bend, I'm not very familiar with. It may be essentially the same as what you mentioned, pattern along path. So potentially yes, I guess. But it would still take some skill, and probably not the best project for a beginner. Although certainly, please to not let my opinion stop you from jumping right in, lol!!
Hhmmm.....I may have to draw up a simple circle with some text, and experiment, lol. Besides the Bend LPE, there's a Pattern Along Path LPE and also a PAP extension. I think one of them works on groups, and one doesn't, although I might have that confused with something else.
I'll let you know if I find anything promising. But meanwhile, don't miss the info in my forum signature. Start with Inkscape basics section if you're new to graphics altogether. But the manual is not hard to understand either.

Re: Object on path? Cool.
Hi,
Thanks for such fast reply!
About Dali painting - I have put the orginall title in brackets and with this one you will get the orginall one. But maybe its not so important because I don't want to create something such complex like there. It was more to get the idea.
My issue is like this. I have a black shadow of a person (about 80 control points on a closed path) and I want to make it a bit wavy. I mean to make the shadow looks like letter "S", but more straight. Even more straight than this sign '~'. < this is main more or less Beziers curve ;]
Basicly I expected answer likeyou posted, that its possible but for skilled inkscape user
But never bad to ask.
Thanks for links, my education is in progress. Also basic things.
Thank you again!

Re: Object on path? Cool.
Oh, yes, that should be possible. I just did some quick tests, and was surprised how close I can get to that. It would need a bit of tweaking to look right, but I think you could get close enough to fake it. But I literally did a quick circle with 4 numbers. I applied perspective, and to that result, applied the Bend LPE.
So for what you describe, I think should be fairly easy. I was even able to apply the Bend LPE to a group (although in the end, I couldn't use the Perspective extension on a group). Anyway, here are the basic steps, and you can see the manual for details. And please feel free to post again if you get stuck.
Select the shadow. Then do Path menu > Path Effects Editor > Bend > Add. Now when you click on the
button in the Current Effect section (which shows up after you click Add) you'll see a green, 2-node path. I don't know the technical word for that path, but that's what you use to bend the object. It behaves just like a regular path. So for an S shape, you'll need to add at least one node, maybe 2. Drag out the node handles to shape the curves (Shift + click and drag). You may find it helpful to make the node(s) smooth, symmetric, or maybe even auto-smooth, depending on your preference, or the specific effect you want. Of course you can draw a separate path to practice, since you're new at it.
Let us know how it goes

Re: Object on path? Cool.
Basically done! A bit of gimnastic how to rotate the whole thing but finally the effect is more or less like I want it.
The thing is I want to add my bend in vertical direction and the green line appears in horizontal and its fixed to path ( any movement of edge points had an influence on my path). What I did is rotate my path for 90 deg first, then add bend, then rotate my path back to vertical orientatnion (green path for bend controling was staying in the same position) and at the end I have adjusted the green path to make the same effect as before in horizontal position. Works, looks not bad. Especially as my a first drawing created in vectors system ever.
Thank you a lot again!

Re: Object on path? Cool.
Awesome, I'm glad you got it to work!
In the future, though, there's an option in Current Effect section for "Original path is vertical". That will apply the green path vertically

Re: Object on path? Cool.
I was confused a bit with this one becouse when I set it my path was rotated and deformed at once. Deformed I mean the height was reduced but indeed the path was vertically. Now I have tried it again and it was no problem to extend my path more or less to the same proportions as orginally and after applying bend I was able torotate without any effort. In fact todays result is somehow better than previous so probably I'm going to replace it.

Re: Object on path? Cool.
Did you remove the first path effect? Or else start with a new path? I did that accidentally, when I was experimenting. I applied the path effect on something that already had a path effect. It was quite deformed, lol.
