Trouble with DXF File

Postby adhall » Tue Oct 16, 2018 3:54 am

This is my first attempt to use Inkscape. I apologize if this is a simple problem I should have been able to resolve myself.

I am trying to convert a JPG file to DXF. I can open the JPG file OK and when I save as DXF that does produce a DXF file. However, if I open that DXF in AutoCAD, there is nothing there. Also, if I open the DXF file in Inkscape there is nothing there.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Regards,
adh

You can't do a straight conversion from a jpg to dxf. There are two different type of files. Dxf is vector : it's made of (generally a few) circle, lines, rect and so on, while jpeg is bitmap : it's a -very very- large array of dots.
You can try to vectorize your image (go from bitmap to vector) using the object / trace bitmap menu
