Visually joining objects after deleting stroke

Postby ksr » Mon Mar 11, 2019 9:07 am

Hi there :D

I am both new to the forum and to Inkscape, but do have a tiny bit of experience with design and vector-graphics based applications.

I tried to do a simple exercise project to get me started with Inkscape, and encountered the following problem:

When designing a little bird, whose shapes are in accordance with the golden ratio, I got the following a result:

Image

Now, as you can probably tell, there are transparent pixels in that png where there should not be any.

The bird came to be like this:

So when removing the strokes from the version on the bottom right, it ended up leaving gaps between the shapes.
How do I go about abolishing those gaps? :?:

I'd be grateful for any advise on this :?

Edit: Fixed pictures not displaying

Those gaps are caused by anti-aliasing. There are a few different solutions. One of them is to combine all the pieces so that it's all one solid piece. Another is to replace the strokes, and apply the same gradient to them, so that they more or less melt into the background. All the others are covered here: https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#theres- ... n-patterns

Hi.

Note that the mentioned gap issue is not inkscape-related, every renderer fails to fill those up by definition.

You could edit your drawing in simple steps so that the objects overlap and there is no gap at all.

Thank you, brynn, for the reply. And sorry about the images...

The fag you linked indeed describes the problem perfectly, and using one of the methods you and the faq described I was able to work around the issue with the renderer.

I find that there are drawbacks to all of these methods, so that one has to choose which is most appropriate for ones current needs.
Using Path -> Union, for example, has the unpleasant side effect of applying a single gradient throughout the whole graphic. Which is what should happen, of course, but I wasn't satisfied with that look.
Shifting the pieces a pixel or four so they overlap makes me giddy, since they don't fit perfectly afterwards :o (I tend to obsess over little things like that), although it may be the best method afterall...

I settled for coloring the stroke lines with a gradient for now, which -after a lot of tweaking- produced satisfactory results :)

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it! :D

Despite this little hiccup I found working with Inkscape to be a really pleasant experience overall, I'll definitely do some more stuff with it
