Image Fill

Postby georgecjensen » Sun May 29, 2011 8:21 am

Hi. I want to create a vector image with text & an element behind it with a specific fill, e.g a giraffe pattern. Is it possible to capture a pattern from a JPG image & use that to fill the element? Thanks.

Welcome to InkscapeForum!

Yes! First Import the JPG, Select it, then Object menu > Pattern > Object to Pattern. Then draw your element, open the Fill and Stroke dialog > Fill tab and click the Pattern button (which is indicated with a diamond pattern). The first item in the dropdown list will be "pattern 1234" only with a random number assigned to it. That's your new pattern. Once you click the Pattern button, your element will automatically be filled with it.
