Help with perspective tool and path effects

Postby Skyclad » Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:31 pm

Hi guys, I've been having a frustrating problem with something I'm working on.

Reference image: https://i.imgur.com/IzRtEQP.jpg

I made this quick musical score (top of the image linked) and I wanted to make it into a nice round base for a character I'm drawing to stand in. I used the bend path effect to make it into a circle (as seen on the right) and I wanted to use the perspective extension to make it look like it's painted on the ground, like the normal circle I've done at the bottom there. However whenever I try to use the perspective tool on the musical circle, it just works for a while, then the popup closes and nothing has actually been changed. No matter what I try I can't get the perspective transformation to apply to the object I want.

I can think of a few possibilities as to why this would be: There could be some sort of conflict with the path effect, in which case I would like to somehow "freeze" or lock the transformation in place so that instead of a straight path with an effect it's a path with no effect and nodes forming the round shape instead, or the path is just simply too complex to use perspective on without it crashing or breaking, in which case I wouldn't know what to do. I could always export it to gimp and use the perspective tool there, but then I would lose the ability to edit and scale it in the future if I need to change something.

Hopefully someone here might have an idea of what to do, I'd appreciate any help you can give!

Hi.

Try converting the live path effect to a path (Ctrl+Shift+C) before adding the perspective.

Hello,
The next step is checking that you are using the prespective extension in the right way:

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... erspective

It's a very complex drawing...I could bet that Inkscape will get frozen... but only trying will know. It could depend of the capacity of your machine.

Good luck!
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.
