Kinda Desperate... How do I make my letters the same height?

Postby Photographer » Sun May 01, 2011 1:30 am

Hi, I wrote some text in Inkscape > Object to Path > Ungroup

And I want to make my text more perfect so I took one of the letters and did copy and then clicked on another letter > Paste height

Then nothing happened. The first letter was still short, the other letter was still long...

How do I do this? How do I make all my letters the same size in height?

This works for me.

To make every item in a selection the same height, you need to use Edit->Paste Size->Paste height Separately

Hi Photographer,
I don't quite understand why they are not already all the same height. Since you expect them to be, I'm assuming you're typing them in all caps? If that's true, then they should already be all the same height.....oh, and this is based on another assumption, that you are using one of the more common or standard fonts, such as Arial, Verdana, Times New Roman, etc. There are many of what I would call graphical fonts, which are comical or whimsical or gory, etc. which are made so that they might not all be the same height.

Can you show us your text? This will be the quickest way to show us what's happening.

As for the process you described, it sounds correct. I've followed your steps, and the 2nd letter changes to the height of the first.

But you could also use the Selection tool, and adjust the height on the tool control bar, "H" value. The benefit of doing it this way, is that you can click the little open lock icon (which closes it), to keep the width and height proportional. So click the lock first, then change the height, then click inside the W field (or Enter), and its value will automatically change proportionally. You could also use the Transform dialog (Scale tab) to do the same.

Let us know how it goes :D

(oops, -Rob A> slipped in a reply while I was typing -- works for me with either Paste Size > Paste height, or Paste Size > Paste height separately ;) )

Do you happen to use Inkscape on Mac OS X and didn't yet change the X11 clipboard preferences?

Right.

you can change the setting 'on-the-fly' (no need to restart X11 or Inkscape) - the setting is immediately effective and 'Paste Size' as well as all other 'paste' commands of vector objects in Inkscape finally work as expected.
