Unconstrained canvas pan with graphic pen key

Postby nikto » Tue Aug 09, 2016 10:39 am

Hi! I set all my graphic programs to use my bamboo graphic pen in this way:
first pen button = free canvas pan/move depending on the pen movements
I would like to set Inkscape in the same way without changing the bamboo settings because are fine for all the other programs that, very often, I use the same time with Inscape. Changing bamboo settings would be god just for Inkscape and not for the others.
Now Inscape does this free canvas pan by pressing middle mouse button or by pressing the spacebar, if I click first pen button and I move the pen Inkscape only does a vertical constrained pan that is totally uncomfortable.
Can someone help me? Thanks

Like in GIMP the default setting is holding down space-bar while dragging with the pen to move canvas. Didn´t work for you?

Cheers

Yes I know as I said but I was askig if it could be changed....
I would like to do it by pressing the first pen button and not pressing the task bar ;)

try to define an inkscape "profile" (= little script to change the binding of buttons)
(and a back profile to restore the settings when switching back to another application)

http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... figuration

set button 1 to be space and it should be fine. And as it should work in gimp too maybe you eventually won't have to define profile at all.

it looks that on windows you can tweak the settings for each application

Yes It would be so if I had a higher range model :( but I have a Bamboo model and sadly this feature is not present...
It is exactly what I need...

From the screenshot it looks like if you have 2+ "premium" tablet (intuos, cintiq) they appear as devices in the properties panel (wacom desktop center ?)
Maybe it works too if you have 1(+) premium tablet and a bamboo.
And maybe it will work even if you don't have any premium tablet at all
So I'd try to install this properties panel by installing the intuos driver and see what happens.

If you can't for legal reason or because it just does not work maybe you could try tweaking the settings without using a front end

You have found a very interesting way.
Tweaking the AppGestures.xml is certainly the only chance to get around my Bamboo Preference Panel lacks!
I would like to avoid installing a different driver.
Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer and after a little study I understand that it's almost impossible for me to understand how to modify the AppGestures.xml. I'm searching around to find a tweaker utility but as I can see there isn't
