Just watched the latest Nick's Logos video about using textures.
Hes basically painting with a grunge brush in Gimp and traces that texture in Inkscape.
Then he applies the texture with a 'Difference' to his text.
The program lags heavily in the video because of processor overload.
I think Illustrator bypasses this problem by using temporay bitmaps that exist in the background of the program (so to speak).
Inkscape has the option to 'Make a bitmap copy' under 'Edit' (Alt + B), but i guess to use that in a beneficial way you have to also work with layers (make bitmap copy, turn off layer to unburden processor).
Are there any plans in the future for Inkscape to solve that problem ?

Re: Node heavy textures and lagging
Is the problem using too much processor? Or too little RAM? If it's just node heavy, it's probably not enough RAM.
At least it's my understanding that filters and raster images use the processor, and maybe graphics card more. While excessive nodes (vector content) need RAM to function.
Using layers will help up to a point. But after a certain point, not even hiding layers is enough.
