I've just upgraded from .46 to .47, and all of a sudden I've found copy/paste not working like it used to. I want to copy a path, but when I go to paste it, it comes out as a raster image, and quite a grainy one at that. Funnily enough, when I go to undo this, instead of having the option to "undo paste", the edit menu offers me "undo import". Even stranger, image files of the elements I copy turn up in the folder I'm working in, named "inkscape_pasted_image_20100519_200318.png", for example. What is going on??
I've tried this using ctrl-c or ctrl-x and ctrl-v as well as selecting from the drop-down menu and it has the same effect. Copy/paste is pretty much useless to me right now. Any ideas? Anything blindingly obvious that I'm missing?

Are you working on Mac OS X? If so, read the comment the earlier topic "Mac Snow Leopard?" describing the changes you have to make in the X11/Xquartz settings if using Inkscape 0.47 (applies for Leopard and Snow Leopard).
