Hi
I've read various tutorials but I'm not able to do what I want to do.
I have a shape, a path or so, that's obviously composed by nodes.
I want to move it in order to match a specific node with the node of another shape without deforming/distorting either of them.
Someone knows how to do it?
I tried the snap tool but I didn't found any option that works for my target.
Thank you for your time.
Connect nodes and mantain the shapes....

Re: Connect nodes and mantain the shapes....
I'd ensure that node snapping is active in the snapping tools. Snapping will work in both the node editing mode and in object mode.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Without seeing the SVG file, we can only guess where you might be having problems. Snapping is a very complex feature. It took me a few months to finally understand everything about it.)
My guess would be that in the Snap control bar, you have either Snap to cusp nodes or Snap to smooth nodes enabled, instead of both. For some reason, since 0.91, Inkscape doesn't always know the difference.
But just to cover all the bases, to be able to snap the node of one object to the node of another object, you need to engage the following buttons, and make sure all the other buttons are not engaged.
Enable Snapping (1st button)
Snap nodes, paths and handles (7th button)
Snap to cusp nodes (10th button)
Snap to smooth nodes (11th button)
Now you should be able to select the object (with Selection tool), and drag it over towards the other object. When they get close enough, the nodes will snap together.
Without further configuring, all nodes will be trying to snap to all other nodes (as well as to any other targets in the area, if you didn't disengage the unneeded options on the control bar). To make it easier to control, I would suggest Edit menu > Inkscape Preferences > Behavior > Snapping and check the box "Only snap the node closest to the pointer". And then when you grab the object, to drag it over to the other object, grab it as near to the node as you can.
If you still can't get it to work, we might need to see the SVG file, to find the problem.
